Theanswers to this problem are Jill is 10 yrs. old and Dad is 40 yrs. Please help!

Explanation / Answer

You're only allowed to ask one question per post. For the last problem, you know that in 5 years, the sum of the ageswill be 60 (Dad is 5 years older, daughter is 5 years older, 50 +10 = 60). It is given that the Dad will be three times as old as thedaughter. Set the daughter's age equal to x, so the Dad's age is3x. We know the sum equals 60. 3x + x = 60. Solving for x yields 15, and solving for 3x yields 45. Rememberthat these are the ages in 5 years. Simply subtract 5 from each age to get today's ages. Dad = 40, Daughter =10.
