Your community is drawing 1000 gallons of water per day from your municipal aquifer , which currently contains an estimated 10,000,000 gallons of water . You have determined that there is no recharge occurring to this aquifer. How long will it take in (years) for your community to deplete this aquifer? Show your work please .Explanation / Answer
Given, the rate of withdrawal of water = 1000gallons/day
Total capacity of the aquifer = 10,000,000 gallons.
Given, that aquifer has got no sources of recharge,so,
Time taken to deplete the aquifer= volume of water in aquifer /withdrawal rate
= 10,000,000/1000= 10000days=10000/365= 27.39 years
