Following are the major methods to learn about earth's past climatic or temperature history:
Studying fossils-: if we study about fossils and correlate the fossils we can easily trace the paleo-climate temperature conditions, this is because of some species can live in particular environments/temperatures only.

Sediment deposits on earth surface: sediments on earth surface give us broad information about the paleo climate/temperature of the earth, this sediment samples can studied through core samples. This core samples can give us how was the environment of particular area.

Greenhouse can be simply described as the reflecting sun radiation traped by the greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, CFC, etc. This effect leads to increase the global mean temperature is called as global warming. Following are consequences of greenhouse effect and global warming.( Greenhouse gases and their role in current climate change):

1 sea level rise- global warming causes sea level rise, this is because of increasing temperature causes melts the ice caps.
2 changes in climate- warming up the earth can cause extreme changes in earth atmosphere.
3. changes in rain fall pattern- rain pattern can be disturbed due global warming, this disturbances like severe storms, floods etc.
4.Coastal erosion- rising sea level causes coastal erosion.
5. destruction species- increasing temperature causes some kind of species will be extent.
