Question
The acceleration of an airplane is shown in the graph as the plane takes off. The plane stops briefly at the start of the runway before it takes off so at t = 0, s = 0 and v = 0. (a) Determine the velocity of the plane when it lifts off the runway at t = 30 s. (b) Determine how far the plane has travelled down the runway when it lifts off.
Explanation / Answer
is it my poor eyesight or the image is not clear
an ways it looks like 3 ft/s^2 and 9 ft/s^2
so from the graph
the are under the graph gives the velocity at t= 30
so area = 3*5 + 0.5*6*5 + 25*9 = 255 ft/s
average acceleration = velocity by time = 255 / 30 = 8.5 ft/s^2
so the distance covered = 0*30 + 0.5 * 8.5 * 30 *30 = 3825 ft
