Question

A company produces a container that is 14 in tall and weighs 5.6 lbs. They have decided, however, that it can no longer afford to make this container. The company plans to produce a smaller container, which is similar to the original. If the new container is 9 in tall, how much will it weigh? Ritz Crackers surveyed 1000 people in different age groups to determine their favorite cracker. The participants were equally divided into 4 age groups (in years): under 20, 20 to 39, 40 to 59, and 60 and over. Below is the table for the participants' favorite cracker. What is the probability (written as a percentage) that a randomly selected participant was 20 years or older? 152 of the participants under 20 years old chose Peanut Butter Ritz Bitz as their favorite. Find the probability that a participant chose Peanut Butter Ritz Bitz OR was under 20 years old? What is the probability that a participant chose Peanut Butter Ritz Bitz AND was under 20 years old?

Explanation / Answer

The participent are equally divided into four groups, therefore the probability of each group is 0.25.

We want the probabiltiy that selected participant was 20 years or older, therefore the probability is 0.25+0.25+0.25 that is equal 0.75 that is 75%

the probability that 152 of the participant is under 20 years is 0.152 and the remaining participent is 219. therefore the probability is 0.219+0.25=0.46 that is 46%

THe probability that a particualr chose a peanut butter ritz and the participent was under 20 years is

152/1000 =0.152 in % 15.2%
