Explanation / Answer
I will write S for Sammy and M for Martin. S earned $535 in 48 hours, which has to be 40 h at regular rate and 8 at rate and a half. So his hourly rate "s" must be such that: 40 s + 8 (1.5 s) = 535,or 40 s + 12 s = 535 52 s = 535 s = 535/52 => s = 10.288... M earned $587 in 52 hours, which has to be 40 h at regular rate and 12 at rate and a half. So his hourly rate "m" must be such that: 40 m + 12 (1.5 m) = 587,or 40 m + 18 m = 587 58 ms = 587 m = 587/58 => m = 10.120... Result: Sammy earns more per hour
