Question

Besides different kinds of stability that can happen when (xe) (and we need to check stability cobwebbine), the values are very sensi to a change in the updating function [moving up or down) In the next three prablems, you will explore this phenomenon #2 use the graphs below to show what happens if the graph of the updating function with f (xe) 1 is moved up or down a bit. In each case, use cobwebbing check stability of the equilibrium values and state whether the equilibrium (or equilibria) are stable or unstable. a) Original updating function Equilibrium b) Updating function moved up Equilibrium values: Stability of each

Explanation / Answer

firstly i am assuming that you are well aware about the cobwebbing technique

part (a)- from the graph we can see that the stability is moving far away from the equilibrium and in cob webbing if the stability is not closer to the equilibrium then the equilibrium is unstable.

part(b)-when the updating function is moved up -from the figure it is clearly visible that the equilibrium values till 14 are stable as the stability is moving closer to equilibrium from 14 to 16(not clearly visible) the equilibrium is unstable after that it is stable till 20 and then for every value equilibrium is unstable.

part(c)-when the updating function is moved down-the equilibruim till 16 is stable and after that it is unstable.if we start cobwebbing from 22 ,from figure it is seen that the stability is moving more and more away from the equilibruim thus making it highly unstable.

part(d)-from all the graph we can conclude that on updating function up the variations of equilibrium between stable and unstable are high whereas if the updation function is moved down the equilibruim only becomes unstable after a particular value .
