Question

A person has signed a contract to write a book, where he has already written the first 90 pages. But, the publisher wants the book to be 300 pages long. The author has started writing K pages of the book, each day, starting from today. (i) Formulate a linear discrete system that models omega_n, the total number of pages written after n days and the unknown parameter K, w(0) = 90. (ii) The publisher has given the author 21 days to finish the book. Find the approximate number of pages the author needs to write each day to complete the book.

Explanation / Answer

Gien w(0) = 90

And K pages are written each day.

i) So, wn = 90 + nK , where n is the number of days when writer starts writing K pages per day.

ii) Author has given 21 days means n = 21

So,

300 = 90 + 21K

210 = 21K

K = 10, so writer needs to write 10 pages per day to complete book on time.
