Question

The following table shows the hot dogs bought from a street
vendor over the course of eight days (“Demand”). Also
shown is the temperature for each day in degrees Celsius.

Temperature              Demand                 Temperature                  Demand
    (C)                                                         (C)

         20                      48                                7                           18
         11                      30                               12                          23
         23                      36                               18                          42
         18                     40                                21                          33

a. Calculate the slope and y-intercept for the linear regression
equation for these data.
b. Predict the demand for hot dogs on a day with a temperature
of 15°C.

Explanation / Answer

Y=mx+c

m=y2-y1/x2-x1

=48-30/(20-11)

=18/9=2

y=2x+C

=>48=2*20+c

=>C=8

y=2x+8

B. X=15

y=2*15+8

=38
