Question

Assume that Abby, Bill, Carol, Dave, and Emma are 5 students of equal ability taking the same C. S. class. Abby studied 5 hours for the final and got a 51 Bill studied 6 hours for the final and got a 75.5 Carol studied 11.5 hours and got a 100 Dave studied 10 hours, but we don't know his score Emma got a 91.75, but we don't know how long she studied Use linear regression to find a line relating hours studied to final exam scores, and use that line to estimate Dave's score. Explanation / Answer

XY and X2 as it was done in the table below.

the sum of every column:

X=22.5 , Y=226.5 , XY=1858 , X2=193.25

THEREFORE USING THE FORMULA FOR a and b we will get

a = 26.75

and b = 6.5

regression = 26.75+6.5X

DAVE HOURS WERE 10

THEREFORE SCORE = 26.75 + 6.5*10

= 91.75

X Y XY XX 5 51 255 25 6 75.5 453 36 11.5 100 1150 132.25
