Question
After menopause, some women take supplemental estrogen. There is some concern that if these women also drink alcohol, their estrogen levels will rise too high. Twelve volunteers who were receiving supplemental estrogen were randomly divided into two groups, as were 12 other volunteers not on estrogen. In each case, one group drank an alcoholic beverage, the other a non-alcoholic beverage. An hour later, everyone's estrogen level was checked. Only those on supplemental estrogen who drank alcohol showed a marked increase.
a) (2 marks) Can we make population inferences? Why or why not? Justify your answer. b) (2 marks) Can we make causal inferences? Why or why not? Justify your answer.
Explanation / Answer
(a) Yes ,we can make population inferences by using chi square as test statistics for the sample observations from both groups we can check for Independence and dependence of attributes, thus we can infer about population according to the results of test statistics either accepted or rejected.
(b) yes we can make casual inferences by fiiting up regression line over data to check about dependency and independency of attributes,in casual inference we check for change in response variable when cause is changed.
