Question

Answer both of the following questions. Attached you will find a regression analysis (along with frequencies for the variables used in the analysis) testing the hypothesis that Republicans will like Obama less than Democrats and that those with a higher level of education will like him more than those with a lower level of education. (Obama therm is a "feeling thermometer Low scores indicate one is cold. does not like him, and high scores indicate one is warm, likes him.) From this analysis, answer the following, (25 points) a) Does the analysis support the hypotheses as stated? How do you know? b) Using the t-score, significance level (a/2 .05), and confidence interval methods determine whether the independent variables are statistically significant. Explain how you determined this. c) Interpret the unstandardized regression equation, intercept and slopes. d) Interpret the standardized regression coefficients (Betas) and the R-square statistic. e) Predict the liking of Obama for the following: 1) a weak Democrat with 8 years of education 2) an Independent with 12 years of education 3) a strong Republican with 16 years of education. 2) Attached you will find part of the results page from your outside reading "The Influence of Political Consultants in the 1992 Congressional Elections." From this, please answer the following. (20 points) a) Tell me what the authors' hypothesis is. b) Identify which is the dependent variable, the independent test, and the independent control variables. termine this? c Are the independent test variables statistically How did you d) Interpret the unstandardized coefficients for the test variables.

Question-1

Part-a

As the coefficient of partyid is negative and significant (p=0.000) so this indicate increase in party id from strongly democrat to strongly republican will lead to decrease in Obama feeling and hence Republican like Obama less than Democreates.

Coefficient of educ_r is positive but not significant (p=0.173), so education has no effect on Obama feeling.

Part-b

Party id is significant as b=-8.595, t=-37.264, p=0.000<0.05. Also, 95% confidence interval (-9.047, -8.142) does not includes zero, so it is significant

Education is not significant as b=0.265, t=1.364, p=0.173>0.05. Also, 95% confidence interval (-0.116,0.647) does includes zero, so it is not significant

Part-c

When Party id is independent ( that is partyi id=0) and education level is zero, the average feeling to Obama is 77.599 which is the intercept.

Coefficient of partyid is -8.595 which means that corresponding to unit increase in partyid there is on an average a decrease of 8.595 Obama feeling, holding education fixed.

Coefficient of education is 0.265 which means that corresponding to unit increase in education level there is on an average an increase of 0.265 Obama feeling, holding partyid fixed.

Part-d

Standardized Coefficient of partyid is -0.619 which means that corresponding to unit standard deviations increase in partyid there is on an average a decrease of 0.619 standard deviations in Obama feeling, holding education fixed.

Standardized Coefficient of education is 0.023 which means that corresponding to unit standard deviations increase in education level there is on an average an increase of 0.023 standard deviations Obama feeling, holding partyid fixed.

R2=0.381 which means that the party id and education together explained almost 38% of the variations in Obama feeling.

Part-e

1-Liking of Obama=77.599 – 8.595*1 + 0.265 *8=71.124

2-Liking of Obama=77.599 – 8.595*3 + 0.265 *12=54.994

3-Liking of Obama=77.599 – 8.595*6 + 0.265 *16=30.269
