Question
I believe the answer is the third option. Could you please explain why the opposite answer, the first (top) option is incorrect? 1) You have calculated the following power model and associated unit sp Image Description: n -7, Summation of (Y- Yhaty? -1285] [Image Description : n =7, summation of (Y-Yhat) = 1285] Cost = 2.85 (Weight) 0.895 n = 7 (Y-Y-1285 As an alternative, you could use the linear equation: Cost = 122.31 + 126.80 (Weight) SE = 12.69 You would select the: Power equation because it has a higher standard error than the linear model. 0 Linear equation because it has a lower standard error than the power model. O Power equation because it has a lower standard error than the linear model. O Linear equation because it has a higher standard error than the power model.
Explanation / Answer
Any model would be the correct one only if the standard error is less or negligible.
So for the power model , we got sum of squares = 1285
SE = sqrt(Sum of squares) / n
SE = 1285 / 7
SE = 5.1210
Thus we can compare the standard error of the power model to the linear model and we find that the standard error of the power model 5.121 is less than the standard error of the linear model 12.69. Thus we would say that Power model is a better option because it has "lower" standard error.
The first option says power model because it has "higher" standard error...this is incorrect
Thus the correct option is the third option which says "power model because it has "lower" standard error"
