Question
They are two types of probabilities. An experimental and theoretical probabilities. Experimental probability describe as event occurring when an experiment is on going. For this actual experiment, probability of an event is determined. Mathematically in particular. For example if i have a dice rolled 600 times and the numbers 5 occurs 99 times, then the experimental probability that 5 shows up on the dice is _____. Theoretical probability are determined by no possible outcomes and determining how likely the given outcome is. For example the number 5 hows up on a dice when rolled is _____. This is because 1 possible outcomes (showing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) only 1 outcome will show (showing 5) is favorable. As the numbers of chances keeps increasing, the probality tends towards the theoretical probability. To see this, the number trials should be sufficiently large in number while experimental probability is frequently used in research and experiments of social sciences economics and medicine.Explanation / Answer
Solution:
As 5 appears 99 times out of 600
Experimental probability = 99/600 = 0.165
Theoritical Probability = 1/6 = 0.166
Theoretical probability is what we expect to happen, where experimental probability is what actually happens when we try it out. The probability is still calculated the same way, using the number of possible ways an outcome can occur divided by the total number of outcomes. As more trials are conducted, the experimental probability generally gets closer to the theoretical probability.
