a. In UTP, three office assistants are assigned to process incoming applications for admission in January 2017. The first assistant processes 45%, the second assistant processes 35% and the rest is processed by the third assistant. The first assistant has an error rate of 0.03, the second has an error rate of 0 05 and the third has an error rate of 0 04. An application selected at random is found to have an error. What is the probability that the application was processed by second assistant? b. The probability that a management trainee will remain with a company is 0.60. The probability that an employee earns more than RM 5000 per month is 0.50. The probability that an employee is a management trainee who remained with the company or earns more than RM 5000 per month is 0.70. i. What is the probability that an employee earns more than RM 5000 per month and is a management trainee will remain with a company? ii. What is the probability that an employee earns more than RM 5000 per month, given that he is a management trainee who stayed with the company?

Explanation / Answer

Q2) P(Second assistant/Error ) = (P(Error/Second Assistant)*P(Second Assistant))/P(Error)

P(Second assistant/Error ) = (0.05*0.35)/(0.03*0.45+0.05*0.35+0.04*0.20) = 0.448718

b) (i) P(Earns more than 5000 and remain with a Company) = 0.60+0.50-0.70 = 0.40

(ii) P((Earns more than 5000/Remain with a Company) = 0.40/0.60 = 0.667
