Question

Contemplate the questions in the following paragraph for a few minutes before you h the rest of the activity. Then return to these questions at the end. There aren't any whole numbers between 2 and 3, but there are plenty of decimals in between 2 and 3. If you are given two decimals, will there always be another decimal in between the two? Are there some decimals that don't have any other decimals in between them? Work with a partner and take turns giving your partner a pair of decimals and challenging him or her to find a decimal in between your pair. For example, you could give your partner the pair 1.2, 1.4: your partner could respond with 1.3. Try to stump your partner! Continue taking turns until one of you has stumped the other or you both agree that neither of you will be able to stump the other.

Explanation / Answer

1.

There will always be decimal numbers in between any two given decimal number.(this because there are infinite number of decimal numbers in between any two given decimal number)

There are no two decimal number  between which there is no decimal numbers.

2.

Between 1.2 and 1.3 there is 1.25

Between 2.5and 2.6 there is 1.55

Between 9.1 and 9.11 there is 9.109

Between 7.99 and 8 there is 7.999

Between 6.66 and 6.667 there is 6.661

we were unable to stump the other

so there is always a decimal number between two decimal numbers.
