A developmental psychologist believes that teenagers are significantly more “agreeable” in the morning than the afternoon. The psychologist develops a questionnaire to measure current-state agreeableness (CSA) with a score of 100 indicating high agreeableness (i.e. very good mood) to 0 indicating very low agreeableness (i.e. very bad mood). To test his hypothesis, the psychologist randomly selects a sample of high school students, and administers the CSA (half take the CSA at 7 AM and the other half at 2 PM). The mean scores on the CSA were; 87 at 7 AM and 79 at 2 PM.

The measurement which we have here is called ratio scale of measurement. It has all four properties of measurement which are
Identity (Each value on the measurement scale has a unique meaning),
Magnitude (Values on the measurement scale have an ordered relationship to one another. That is, some values are larger and some are smaller),
Equal intervals (Scale units along the scale are equal to one another, i.e the difference between 5 and 10 is equal to the difference between 150 and 155, and
A minimum value of zero. The scale has a true zero point, below which no values exist.
2)
We have to conduct statistical analyses on this data in order to check if the two mean scores of CSA which came out when the measurement was taken in morning and afternoon are statistically different. We will know if the difference between the scores is significant enough for us to conclude that teenagers are significantly more “agreeable” in the morning than the afternoon.
