Question
Every data collection and analysis method has limitations. For this worksheet activity, using the Reference article from the provided list for your final project article, identify all elements of the article that you have studied in previous modules. In addition, identify the limitations presented by the study population and the advantages and disadvantages of the statistical analysis used.
NOTE using this article: Reference Article: Edwards, M. P., McMillan, D. E., & Fallis, W. M. (2013). Napping during breaks on night shift: Critical care nurse managers' perceptions. Dynamics (Pembroke, Ont.), 24(4), 30-35.
Part II: Purpose, Research Question, and Hypothesis
1. What is the purpose of the study?
2. What is/are the research question(s)?
3. What is/are the hypothesis(es) of the study?
4. What is/are the explanatory variable(s)?
5. What is/are the response variable(s)?
Part III: Research Methods 1. What population are the researchers interested in?
2. What is the sample? How did the researchers select their sample?
3. How did the researchers collect their data?
4. What statistical analysis did the researchers use?
Part IV: Results or Key Findings
1. What was/were the result(s) of the research question(s)?
2. What were the differences in the groups that were being studied?
3. Did the result support the researchers' hypothesis or not?
4. List (with support) any other results that you found interesting.
Part V: Limitations
1. What did the researchers state as the limitations of their study?
2. Why are these limitations?
3. Please list a question you have about the study that was not addressed in this article.
Explanation / Answer
1) A research study is the complete in depth analysis on a specific area. It is considered extremely important in various fields .For example , business research study can be very useful in analyzing the market and demand for the new product.
2)Questionary method is used to collect primary data by using the following sources.
Projective techniques like word association test
Sentence completion test.
Product test.
Diaries.
Omnibus studies.
Structured method.
Unstructured method.
3) Hypothesis may be defined as a proposition or set of propositions set forth as an explanation for the occurrence of some specified group of phenomenon either asserted merely as a provisional conjecture to guide some investigation or accepted as highly probable in the light of established facts.
In order to make the decisions it is necessary to make certain assumptions about the population parameters. These assumptions are referred to as hypothesis.E
Ex: Students who take tutions perform better than the others who not receive tutions.
To test the above hypothesis we have to use testing of hypothesis.
4) Exploratory research is often conducted because a problem has not been clearly defined as yet or it's real scope is unclear.
It is the intial research , before more conclusive research is undertaken
Exploratory research can be quite informal , relying on secondary research such as reviewing available literature or qualitative approach with Consumer's, employees, management. The results of this are not useful for decision making by themselves, but they can provide significant insight into a given situation.
5) Response methods :
Mail intercept response.
Center location telephone response.
Self administred response.
Mail response.
Online response.
