Question

The response time in milliseconds was determined for three different types of circuits in an electronic calculator. The results are recorded here. Circuit Type Response 1 18 23 1917 26 2 21 21 33 2641 3 15 1419 26 16 (a) using = 0.05 , test the hypothesis that the three circuit types have the same response time. The null hypothesis rejected (b) Analyze the residuals from this experiment. There is some indication of variability in circuit (c) Find to 2 decimal places a 95% confidence interval on the response time for circuit three

Explanation / Answer

a)

These are the response time of 3 circuits

H0: Null hypothesis

All the 3 circuits' response time are same

mu1 = mu2 = mu3

Ha: Alternate hypothesis

Atleast one pair of the 3 circuits' response time are different

mu1 != mu2 != mu3

since p-value is lesss than 0.05, reject null hypothesis.

The response time of the 3 circuits are different

b)

The residuals are the within group sum of squares

c)

95% confidence interval of circuit 3 response time

= mean response time of circuit 3 +/- z (alpha/2) *std error

z (alpha/2) = 1.96

std error = std devn/ sqrt(n) = 4.8477/sqrt(5) = 2.1680

CI = 18 +/- 1.96*2.1680

= (22.25,13.76)
