The company is having trouble taking GRIND CO coffee to the female and younger markets. Thought their current print ad campaigns. (“Get back to the grind with Grind Co Coffee”.

So as a marketing manager I hired new team members:

What is workforce diversity and how does it benefit the organisation

Workforce diversity means the task of making the organisations more heterogeneous in terms of its employee mix through addition of employees from various gender, age groups, ethnicity, educational backgrounds etc. The workforce diversity widens the thought process and on boards different skill sets to make better decisions in turn help in achieving the financial and non financial goals of the organisations.

Encouraging the diverse team

The idea behind on boarding new team members with diverse backgrounds, age,gender etc is to broaden the horizons of the thought process in the team. The Manager needs to enhance the collaboration in the team by boosting the culture of open discussion, creating feedback loops and participative style of decision making. The views of new and old team members have to be collaborated with a consensus.

Affirmative Action & Affirming Diversity

Affirmative action involves efforts to improve the diversity in the organisation by increasing intake of employees from various different backgrounds. Affirming diversity goes a step further and involves a deliberate attempt by the organisation to improve their work culture by valuing the different opinions, beliefs etc to take decisions and in turn uses affirmative action as a tool. The leap fogging of technology has also widened this gap o but a proper training module and inclusion of elder employees in decision making bodies helps a long way.

The disproportionate employment of women is another very common diversity issue. The representation has to be improved and training modules with explanations of why it is important helps a lot.

When people from different ethnicities who speak different languages work together, there are very high chances of mis-communications in the teams. The trainings of the beauty and different cultures help immensely.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITH DIVERSITY

Implementation Problem- While bringing in diverse workforce has advantages; the most faced challenge is to implement the same as it often faces a huge backlash from the current employees.

Hamper the employee morale- The hiring of new employees hampers the morale of employees working from a longer time in the organisation who sometimes feel neglected.

Hampers team collaboration-The mingling and coordination sometimes become very difficult with team members from different cultures or having language barriers.

The ill effects of not managing diverse workforce

The on boarding of diverse workforce and blending them with the teams often takes a lot of investments in terms of time, money and efforts of the organisations. A number of resources are employed and training programmes are conducted to smoothen the process of blending the teams together but the barriers can sometimes make the whole team coordination worse hampering the achievement of company objectives and financial loses.
