System development failures have been discussed, written about, and held up as model of what not to do. At a point toward the end of the 1990’s, it was estimated that 75% of all the major system projects failed, were significantly over budget, or were completed late. Many did not meet customer (requester) expectations. Since this disastrous time, many companies have embraced formal project management professionals, tools, and commitment with significantly improved results.
Do you feel that organizational problems (business and project) contribute significantly to system / project failures in organizations than and now? Why or why not? (Explain)
List and explain two (2) business reasons that can contribute to the system / project failure.
Explanation / Answer
Organizational Problems:-
Organizational problems are the set of issues/challenges that are faced during the operational task within an workplace. Generating business of any kind, from any industry comes up with several challenges & issues. These problems are aroused due to lack of knowledge & experience. Although I feel these problems can be resolved, but sometimes if action not taken at proper time these problems can lead to significant system/project failure in many companies.
As stated above, any problems within the organization, if not dealt with proper actions & at correct time can lead to project failure. Poor communication & improper feedback, Unclear understanding on individual targets, lack of awareness, lack of motivation, trust, within the organization will create a pitfall for the organization, & hence the system failure will happen. Because of organizational problems productivity will be hampered, relationships with customer will be ruined, which might lead customers to take their project back if these cases happen on regular basis.
2 business reasons which can lead to failure are mentioned below:-
If above happens within any team or org, ultimately the motive of team would shift to belittle people rather than working for the project & meeting milestones. People tend to waste their energies in negative remarks & hence work start to lose its importance.
The leader should discuss the direction with the team the major vision of the project & clearly define the roles & responsibilities of each member. Lack of understanding & commitment will surely lead the project failure.
