Question

4 Consider the following Boost converter shown in Fig 2 VL SW Fig. 2 (a) When the SW is closed, is diode D forward-biased or reverse-biased? (5 points) (b) When the SW is open, how much voltage of V across inductor L? Assume that the diode D is ideal. (5 points) 00 HNu- Now, let us consider the following conditions in Fig. 2: Vn 5 volts, L 1 15 volts, switching frequency 100 KHz, and Po 10 watts. (c) Find the peak-to-peak ripple inductor current . (5 points) (d) Draw Vi, it, and average inductor current I in detail. (10 points)

Explanation / Answer

a) When SW is closed, anode of diode goes to zero. But the cathode of diode is at Vo. Therefore the diode is reverse biased.

b) When the SW is open, the diode will be forward biased. Hence the voltage across inductor will be Vin - Vo

c) The peak to peak inductor ripple is 0.33A
