Explanation / Answer

The practices followed by McWane with a goal of increasing their profits compromised worker safety. There were instances of worker's deaths, dismemberment and environmental pollution. Companies should not be allowed to introduce changes which result in a threat to worker safety. Organizations must ensure employee safety at all the times and must not impose any changes in the workplace which threaten worker safety. These types of changes can prove to be disastrous for the organization in the long run and can affect the brand image, customer satisfaction, employee turnovers etc. Moreover, employees who fear for their safety while present at work may not be able to work to their fullest potential. Government should intervene and introduce the proper labor laws which protect worker safety and well-being while at work. Government can introduce the labor laws with necessary provisions which govern the safety and well-being of employees. The government should not interfere with the way company does its business, but it should propose the guidelines which protect the interest of the employees. Also, it is Government's duty to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens and this can be ensured by regulating the enforcement of such practices. Happy employees will work better and would be able to give better results for the company. McWane, in a quest for increase in profits introduced many such practices which interfered with the safety of the workplace. This resulted in a lot of negative publicity for the company, along with the corporate damages are giving a proof that such practices which compromise the workplace safety are not viable in the long run for any organization.
