Explanation / Answer

Answer:

Do these practices compromise worker safety?

YES, these practices compromise worker safety as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is not followed.

Should companies be allowed to make such changes in their work practices when workers may be injured as a result? Why or why not?

NO, The companies on their own cann't change or deviate the work practices as laid by the authorities and as stated in the federal laws. The reason being all the manufacturing units are regulated and inspected / auidted by the authorities in a specific time interval. Failure to adhere to the rules and regulation shall led to the cancellation of licence to run the factory.

Should the government regulate these work practices and tell companies how they must run their business? Why or why not?

YES, the governement should regulate these work practices and tell companies how they must run their business. The reason being to protect the basic rights, health & life of the workmen or labour whoever employed by the company. In our case also, once it was revealed about the unsafe practise at work, OHSA inspector, the then section head Mr. David Uhlmann, gone for a national wide inspection in all Mcwane facilities and resulted in the prosecution of 5 of its facility. Mcwane paid millions of dollar as fine to the governement for violating the rules.

Thanks.
