How are they similar? How are they different? Step 3: Choose an example of an issue to be researched. . Give an example of this topic could be researched from cach of these perspectives. . Would the researcher use an experimental design or a correlational design? Explain your answer. (Be specific - refer to textbook and be sure to cite references!) This should be several paragraphs for full credit! Your response should demonstrate that you understand each of these perspectives (describe the perspective) and how the two chosen to evaluate are similar/different as well as how someone from this perspective would study psychology! Don't forget to give an example for each perspective. The examples should contrast how a topic would be studied from each perspective.

Explanation / Answer

Psychodynamic vs Behavioural

Psychodyanamic approach explains that we have very little control over our behaviour and it stems from our unconscious and our childhood experiences play an important role in shaping the child. For example if a person was seen to have any personality disorder ,the pychodynamic approach would be to look into his childhood experiences .As Sigmund Freud explains if there is a conflict between the id and supergo or the psychosexual stages ,it could lead to such behaviour.

Behavioural appraoch is personality learned through rewards and punishment ,it is a product of responses and stimuli. For example taking the above example, personality disorder would be looked into taking his experiences he learned through punishment environmental factors. The difference is that psychodynamic states that we are not at fault for our experiences.

Experimental design is easier to use for behavioural approach as they can be tested where as psychodynamic appraoch cannot be scientifically tested or observation may not be possible as it focuses on only childhood experiences.
