The games will be played on December 26 and 28th with the Championship Game on the 30th for the winners of the first two games on the 26th and 28th. The team has 15 student-athletes and two assistant coaches traveling in addition to the head coach. The head coach wants to stay in Miami December 25th and attend her church services and to fly to NYC December 26th. Tipoff for the first game is at 4:00 pm. What type of accommodation is being requested? [1 points] b. Do you grant the requested accommodation? [1 points] ° c. why or why not? [5 points]Explanation / Answer
a. The type of accommodation requested is reasonable accommodation to avoid religious discrimination. According to the first amendment employee have the freedom of religion and the employer need to accommodate employees request to perform their religious activities if it do not cause undue hardship to the employer. Here the Head Coach wants to stay in Miami on December 25 to attend her church services and hence it comes under religious accommodation.
b. I will not grant the requested accommodation.
c. I need to accommodate the request only if it may not cause undue hardship for the employer. Our match is on 26th December 4 p.m. and the coach should be presented before the time. But the head coach cannot reach on time if she travels to NYC by flight at noon. She is not ready to travel by the morning flight as she plans to travel with her husband and there is only one seat available. Hence I am sure that she cannot reach on time if I grant her accommodation and it will cause undue hardship for us as the match is very important. Hence I would not grant permission if she insists to come with her husband.
