Explanation / Answer
What is the key distinction between swinging and polyamory?
The key difference is emotion and the type of sexual connection. Polyamory couples have emotional relationship with their partners and there is not just the physical attraction. In swinging, the relationship is more on the recreational sex without any emotional attachment.
Briefly describe the different types of swinging, and describe the different polyamorous relationships.
In swinging, people have sex with strangers, known people, exchanging wives, between friends, neighbours but all of them are short term recreational sex.
Polyamorous combinations could be two people to one, between three people, between four people but in different ways either four people together or separately. These relationships could be either closed ones or open or even the combination of both.
Is the author of "Against Love" more likely to oppose swinging or polyamory? Explain your reasoning.
The author supports the concept because sex is only part of the game and not all. When couples are engaged in this type of life style, they could save their marriage as well as come out of their jealous and possessiveness.
And finally, based on what you know of American society, which do you think is more heavily stigmatized, swinging or polyamory? Explain.
I think Polyamory is more stigmatized because of the multiple emotional relationships involved.
Do you see either of these relationship structures becoming fully acceptable in the next 50 years? Why/why not?
I think both are going to gain importance in the American society. More than 50% of the Americans have cheated in their relationship, so these two types of sexual relationships are going to dominate the American life style and at the end, it would at least save the marriages.
