RE: Sect. 1 Week 15 DQ 13: A bare minimum of care
Buchanan believes that people who have particular rights in a society, of authority or social groups, should have an obligation to others to provide access to healthcare. Daniels argues that physicians should only act within the realms of what are morally required by them. Those who administrate a multi-tier system should determining the minimum coverage for individual at the bottom of the tier system by considering what will produce the most good for all society and individuals receiving healthcare. Buchanan argues that we should provide programs with which deliver healthcare services with beneficence for effective coverage to those at the bottom of the tier system and to society as a whole. Access to healthcare provides the greater good for all of society. It prevents spread of disease and recurrence of old infections. People are protected from what could be fatal illnesses and all of society is protected from communicable diseases through prevention and treatment of healthcare sought by the people who need it. Thus, minimum coverage should be sought by prevention and protection for all society against communicable diseases.
Explanation / Answer
One of the most important factors that has come to the forefront in today's society is affordable or free healthcare to everyone in the country. Normally, rich people get the best medical card because they are able to pay for it. The fact is that all the deadly diseases start with people who are at the bottom of the social hierarchy due to their unhealthy environment, malnutrition, unsafe practices, poverty etc. When they are affected, they are most of the time not in a position to get enough medical care thus spreading it across the country. Thus, providing access to proper healthcare provisions to everyone in the country will help the society become disease free. So, I completely agree that healthcare for everyone will keep the society away from communicable diseases.
