The human skeletal system consists of bones and cartilages of various types. Bones and cartilages are supporting connective tissues. They provide support, surface for the attachment of muscles and protection too many vital organs like brain, heart, eyes etc. They also give definite form and shape of the body.

a) Both bone and cartilages contains lacunae.
In cartilages, lacunae lack canaliculi. Each lacunae has 2-3 chondrocytes.
In bone lacunae gives off canaliculi. Each lacunae has only one bone cell, osteocyte.
b. B and C contains collagen fibres.
Collagen is the main structural protein in various connective tissues. however the intercellular matrix of bone contains more collagen than in cartilage.
c. Cartilage lacks blood supply.
Each cartilage lacks blood supply except in perichondrium. Bones are rich in blood supply.
d. Bone has mineralised Matrix.
In bone Matrix always have calcium salts predominantly calcium phosphates. In cartilage matrix may or may not have calcium salts.
e. Bone produces blood cells.
In bone, bone marrow is present (a hematopoietic tissue from which all blood cells are formed.) In cartilage, bone marrow like structure is absent.
