A Patient has been admitted with fever, analysis of their Immunoglobulins and their levels indicated the following: High levels of high levels of IgG, high levels of IgA, Maternal IgM, and high levels of IgE. The patient’s fever is continuing to increase and you have to take some form of action. (demographics not known)
1. How would you evaluate these results and why do you make such evaluation? 2. Based on your evaluation in question 1 hat would be your suggested course of action and why? 3. Could you determine the age of the patient explain how could you determine that?

1. High levels of IgG indicating the possibility of bacterial or any viral infection because is such infection the levels of IgG is increased.
Increase in the level of IgA indicates infection of mucus membrane of gastrointestinal tract or respiratory tract
Increase in level of IgM indicates the first defence against infection
Increase in level of IgE indicates any parasitic infection or allergic reaction.
2. The levels of IgA, IgM, and IgG are usually measured together as they are related together. Increase in levels of these immunoglobulins provides information about immune system functioning specially related to auto immune disease
3. Since the person is having maternal immunoglobulins IgM it implies the patient is a baby
