Question

Discuss how the concepts in this course can be related or compared to real-world situations like political issues of today's time. Here are a couple of ideas to start with, but please consider other ideas you might have from earlier in the course as well: 1) During the time period we've been studying, the Federal government had a much smaller role in protecting the public. For instance, there were no federal regulations on conditions at work, no aid to the poor or elderly, no regulation of food supply or quality, etc. We typically see the growth of federal protections as a good thing but before they existed people were more accustomed to looking out for the people in their community. People generally felt a much stronger social obligation to those around them. The same thing was true on a larger scale; when there was a major fire or natural disaster in one city, other cities generally sent aid and assistance. How much do you think that has changed today and, based on your understanding of the past, do you think we should seek to continually expand programs like social security, medicaid, medicare, etc. or do you think more responsibility should be put on corporations or individuals? 2) Do you think Confederate memorials should be taken down in southern cities? Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

Scenario of helping other people is very widely changed. As the world is moving towards digital technology and turning the families into nuclear families as well as breaking of the society based living system has a decrease the overall level of communication between people which is created a gap in the society. This gap in generation and communication has a directly decreased the overall society based approaches, resulting less care and application about each other in the society as well as the neighborhood.
Increasing the social security programs as well as the common man is very essential as it provides intensive support to the structure of the society. This increment in the social security and Medicare should be on Corporation as the number of people are extremely large. For serving large amount of people cooperative approach is needed which is also medical as well as beneficial from the social aspects.

Removal of the confederate memorials are not work solution for decreasing the overall level of social disparities. Taking down the memorial would only show intolerance of the society. Specifically targeting southern cities is ethically wrong and should not be implemented into the society as it creates differences between different people and communities. Confederate memorials are symbols of harmony and treaty between two different regions and should remain the same as they are part of the history of America.
