Explanation / Answer
BALANCED COMMITMENT
Organizations and teams differ in many ways. Their size, structures, and services are shaped by internal and external forces—finances, location, personalities. But all effective organizations share at least one thing in common—effectively balanced leadership.
For the leaders to be successful they should be committed to their work and organization. If they are not committed they will do their task as effectively as they can .
People who lead the team without actually knowing the task are fake and rather dangerous.
Commitment is the backbone of a group or organization. It is what gives a group its strength.
Here are several reasons it is important:
POSITIVE ROLE MODEL
Effective leader is to be a role model, to be the kind of person that everyone else looks up to and wants to be like. Effective leaders carry themselves at all times, even when no one is watching, as if everyone was watching.
Leaders live in a goldfish bowl. Everyone is watching the individual in the leadership role. They are very aware of the impact of their words and gestures on the people around them. You must always be sensitive to the fact that everything you say or do is magnified times the people who report to you or look up to you for guidance. A positive remark from leaders to someone over whom you exert influence or control has inordinately positive effects. A negative remark or criticism has inordinately negative effects. Choose your words and your behavior with care.
When the leaders become role model they should have passion and ability to inspire others, commited to society, ability to overcome obstacles.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
For a business leader to be successful, solid communication skills are vital
The three levels of high-performance leadership communication are:
1. Self-communication skills
Self-communication is the internal dialogue we have all day long, and it is directly reflected by our attitude
Self-communication is solely responsible for one's level of self-esteem and self-confidence, which may be the sole determining factor for success in all of our endeavors
.
2. Private, one-on-one communication skills
The key to face-to-face communication is building trust. The three elements of effective private communication are being prompt, direct, and respectful.
People are often hesitant about being direct, worrying it may come off as disrespectful, which can lead to delaying the conversation.
That's why it's important to show you're acting with good intentions and in the best interest of the person. It's also critical to make sure a two-way conversation takes place rather than a one-sided waterfall of criticism
3. Public/group communication skills
For some, public speaking comes easily. For others, it's a terrifying task.
Whether it's speaking in company meetings or presenting a new idea to partners, the ability for leaders to concisely communicate to a group of people is crucial. And of the three skills, the ability to communicate to the masses can best propel a leader from good to great.
POSITIVE INFLUENCE
A leader is a person who believes in a certain goal and who has a certain vision. Good leaders who influence others easily are the ones who strongly believe in this vision. This means that unless leaders strongly believe in vision or goal leaders will never be able to influence others.
What i discovered is that people don't get influenced by a leader because of his words but rather because of the energy that is associated with his words.
Leaders should also influence people by using the different motivation styles that suits each one of them. In my article Negative motivation techniques i said that some people are more influenced by rewards while others are more influenced by the desire to avoid punishments.
A good leader must determine the best motivation style to use with people in order to have the most powerful influence on them.
Finally in order for a leader to influence others he must be a good example and not someone who gives them orders instead of doing things by himself. A leader should lead by example in order to influence others else people might not believe in him.
PERSUASSION
Persuasion is a communication process that causes a change in another’s behavior, attitude or belief. ability to persuade is the key leadership skill. Contrasting two types of power, coercive and persuasive, helps explain the importance of persuasion to leadership. Coercive power depends primarily on either the authority that goes along with one’s position or control of resources and is based on reward and punishment. It exists only so long as you hold that position or control those resources. Persuasive power, in contrast, depends on abilities rather than position. Persuasive power endures the loss of position or resource control. It depends only on your skill.
Persuasion is not the same as manipulation. Think of manipulation as persuasion’s evil cousin. Both involve getting others to do or believe something, but they differ in two important ways. Manipulation typically relies on deception, and has little regard for impacts on others. Persuasion, in contrast, does not depend on deception and, at its best, gives due consideration to the other person.
Persuasion has been on the minds of leaders for centuries. Rhetoric, a topic of much interest to the ancient philosophers, is essentially the art of persuasion. persuasion is a process, not an event. The call to action or the changing of minds may occur at a particular point in time, but the groundwork is laid before the change.
according to me persuassion skill of leadership is difficult to acheive . it is not easy for the leaders to convince people and agreeing them to their thoughts as people are reluctant to change.
LEADERSHIP STYLE
PARTICIPATIVE
Often called the democratic leadership style, participative leadership values the input of team members and peers, but the responsibility of making the final decision rests with the participative leader. Participative leadership boosts employee morale because employees make contributions to the decision-making process. It causes them to feel as if their opinions matter. When a company needs to make changes within the organization, the participative leadership style helps employees accept changes easily because they play a role in the process. This style meets challenges when companies need to make a decision in a short period.
GOAL-ORIENTED LEADERSHIP
Goal-oriented leadership involves setting clear and specific goals where it is known, based on established experience, that they know can be achieved. A goal-oriented leader is grounded in knowledge and a realistic outlook, being aware of the context in which the organisation operates, such as the traditions on which it is based, and the risks being taken. Goal-oriented leadership may involve establishing a hierarchy of goals that cascade down the organisation, or a sequence of goals that acts as steps towards a long-term objective.
Examples of goal-oriented leaders include sales managers, teachers, sports coaches, or mentors who set a series of challenges to encourage learning and development. A team sports coach, for example, not only focuses on the overall goal of winning, but may also give each member of the team different individual goals. If all the different goals are achieved, they will combine to improve the team's overall performance and achieve the collective goal.
the attributes inculated are as follows: focus, decisiveness, acountable, empathy, confidence, optimism, inspiration, honest, confident, visionary.
