Question

Discuss drunk driving:

Every year, more than 1,800 college students die in car crashes and other accidents related to alcohol. More than a million are unintentionally injured or physically assaulted because of someone's drinking, and another 97,000 are sexually assaulted. For most people, one or two beers at a party or a glass of wine with dinner aren't a problem, but if you're going to drink, it's important to stop there. Alcohol abuse occurs when people continue to consume alcohol even though their behavior negatively affects their lives. Binge drinking, underage drinking, and drinking and driving are examples of alcohol abuse. It's illegal to drive in the United States with a BAC of 0.08, and some states have set their legal limit even lower, but the level of alcohol in the blood doesn't have to get that high to impair your driving. Even one drink has been shown to reduce your reaction time and overall driving skills. This means that, after a party, the designated driver shouldn't be the least drunk member of the group, but rather the one who hasn't consumed any alcohol at all.

1) Please discuss your thoughts or experiences with designated drivers and alcohol abuse as listed above. Are you surprised or concerned considering the number of deaths or injuries associated with alcohol?

Explanation / Answer

1.

My thoughts or experiences with designated drivers and alcohol abuse include the fact that the designated driver should be a person who hasn't consumed any alcohol at all and is responsible for driving people who have been drinking. Driving people who are drunk is quite risky as such people may be totally out of their control and driving with such kind of people is very risky. I am not about the number of deaths or injuries associated with alcohol as alcohol impairs one's control and reflexes while driving.
