Question

list in order the eye structures 388 UNIT 18 | Special Senses A retinal detachment occurs when the retina separates from the choroid. Why is this condition considered to be a medical emergency? 5. Why can the inner ear be described as a "tube within a tube"? Melanocytes in both the choroid and the cells of the pigmented epithelium contain melanin. How is this pigment important to eye function? 6. 7. Name another location of melanocytes, and describe their function at that site. Concept Mapping Fill in the blanks to complete this concept map outlining the anatomy of the eye.

Explanation / Answer

1- Retinal detachment is considered as the medical emergency as the retina contains the Rods and Cone cells which are the primary cells of visual sensation . Rodes will help us for black and White visions .Cones are for color vision .Other than these cells there are almost 10 different layers for retina .From the lowest layer the fibers of optic nerve will start as axon terminals .Due to its major role in vision retinal tear is considered as a medical emergency .This if not treated can result in partial or complete blindness

2.The structure of internal ear is considered as a inside a tube in side tube because it contains a double layered structure formed of outer bony labyrinth and inner membrane labyrinth .The bony labyrinth contains a fluid called as perilymph and inner membrane labyrinth contains a fluid called as endolymph

3-The melanin present in choroid and pigmented epithelium will prevent the scattering of light producing unnecessary reflections of light . It also protect the cells from light toxicity

4-The other sites where menlanin pigmentation is seen are i. Skin -determining the skin color

ii.Neuro melanin present in brain
