The two theories of learning discussed are Behaviorism and Constructivism.
Behaviorism approaches emphasise learning as accquisition of new behaviour based on enviormental conditions. behaviours are acquired through conditioning. behaviorists were not interested in what might occur in people's minds; they were only interested in behavioral responses. founders of behaviorism is watson and skinner.
constructivist approaches believe that children develop knowledge through active participation in their learning. its an extension of coginitive development by jean piaget and Lev Vygotsky.
constructivism involves developing the student as a learner through cooperative learning, experimentation, and open-ended problems in which students learn on their own through active participation with concepts and principles.
DIFFERENCES:
1. in terms of the importance of memory, while behaviourism does not put much emphasis on the use of memory Constructivism holds it as a key element of the learning process.
2. in terms on the importance of individual differences, behaviourism does not take into account that everyone learns at different levels and speeds, it also neglects the idea that we all have different motives, and interests that effect the way we learn.
3. differnce on the importance of the role of cognition/thoughts.
4. Differnce on the importance of the effect of previous experiences.
5. Behaviourists emphasise the Stimulus-Response bond while constructivist dont.
