1) What similarities did you find between human and bonobo communication?
At 0.33, Susan says that the se-xual behaviour of the bonobos is too human like, and that is the reason they are not kept in many societies. 0.58- she says that the se-xual behaviour is used by the bonobos for communication and it is an aspect that is present in their entire life. Also, further it is used for conflict resolution, and at 1:07 minutes she says that even in our history, it has been utilised in a lot of parts. And that, the human world has also been divided in a lot of categories revolving around the same concept. At 1:54 she sights the tasmanians who were known to have neither fire nor tools, at 1600s. At 6:31, she is showing the happy vocalisation of a bonobo. They smile when they are happy. At 8:21, she shows the communication that a parent has with the child, and the pant is known to groom their child, in the wild, which is done hear by scissors.
2) What is your opinion regarding the bonobo- Kanzi’s comprehension (understanding) and production (the way he communicates/performs the tasks)? Do you think he can comprehend like human beings?
Yes, has learned to make tools just like human ancestors and that he uses both his hands to do it. He has also learned thatby holding rocks in both hands. He has also learned to as,to make sharp flakes. The rock used by Kanzi are identical to the African ancestors and have great resemblance. . Yes, I think, if given the right environment and culture and upbringing, they,got develop many more abilities.
How is bonobo production (communication) different than humans?
They wouldn’t talk like humans, but as given the exa,ole of panbanishia, the y have communicated through lexicons and symbols. Their ability had stunned the researchers. They identified that if Language is used around these bonobos, they could explore their potential and develop skills that we have. The bonobos communicate not through words but lexicons. In one of the videos, the doctor would be asking Kanzi to either select on symbols of milk or pineapples or noodles, and he would click on the appropriate symbol, with a vocal coming in the background that would speak up the symbol picked, so as to confirm that it was correct.
3) the most interesting in these three Videos is the fact that the ability that was only thought to be present in humans has also been Seen in the bonobos and the similarities are strikingly good. Their walking is similar to humans, the ability to understand emotions and language without actually teaching it. Moreover, the most hated word In the human community, Homo, is the most preferred se-xual mode of communication in the bonobos.
