Explanation / Answer

Victor Frankl, a very influential existential psychologist, put forth the concept of ‘Man’s search for meaning’. He said that all men and women should strive for a meaning in life. Looking at the bigger picture, instead of just focusing on meeting or fulfilling the physiological needs, one needs to focus on achieving a bigger and higher purpose, through finding a meaning in life. Gratification of needs is essential to human existence but the most fundamental need in any particular life situation should be the identification of meaning in life. In Bhagwad Gita, also, Lord Krishna emphasized that the basic purpose of human life is to attain the higher goals of being one with the higher self. If one is cognizant of the real purpose of life, then such an individual is a great asset not only to his family but also to the society in general. People could be united by mutual endeavors, share their efforts, strive and thrive together to overcome the issues that threaten the human life. Finding meaning entails an in-depth understanding of ones’ abilities, skills and identities.
