Computer Science as your major

For this paper, you will consider psychology’s contribution to the chosen field. Using the material that we have covered, address 3 ways how the topic may be relevant in the field. Use the textbook as a reference and provide examples. Additional references are allowed (but not required). All papers should include an introduction, body, and conclusion.

Papers should be in APA 6th Edition format and 3-5 pages, not including the title page and reference page. See the example APA formatted paper in this module.

Explanation / Answer

The two separate fields, computer science and psychology, no where seem related. For computer science is study of computer and other processes and psychology is the science of mind and how a person behaves. There are various interactions between the two and they end up together in the following ways:

--> human computer interaction : this field uses the psychology of the human users to improve the computer systems and the softwares

--> cognitive sciences : in this field there is a contribution of computer science to psychology as they understand the working of the mind by computational tools

--> artificial intelligence: this is building of systems of softwares that start behaving intelligently.

1. Of these, artificial intelligence is the most wide heard and widely used system. These system mimick the human characteristics , way of working and behaviour patterns. Artificial intelligence learns by habit or by performing tasks and then becomes predictive. In this computer field, the machines perform a task, make mistakes, learn from their mistakes and rectify it.

This completely pertains to the human mind and a normal human psychology which learns from its mistakes. One such example of artificial intelligence is Siri which interacts with you in a predictive manner.

2. Also, the human mind has a habit of finding the root cause of a problem when encountered by something that is against the normal. All the programs that are built, are made such that when in the case of a crash or a big failure, the mechanism identifies the root cause and then clears the problem.

3. Processing languages: like the humans can only interact amongst themselves with a given set of language, it so happens that when one would want to interact with an object oriented programming, they would have to continue the programming in those given set of languages and any other random language cannot be used to interact. This again pertains to the human psychology where humans can interact in only a given set of language within their own species.
