Question

could you help me please

Many social scientists have commented on the adult hypocrisy that can accompany childhood socialization. For example, “Do as I say, not as I do” has been around for a long time. One of the topics in this chapter is substance abuse problems among children and adolescents. Some years ago, one of the Drug Council public service messages on television depicted a father who had caught his son in the act of using marijuana. The father, in an agitated and incredulous tone of voice, announces: “Where did you get this?!......where did you find out about this stuff?!” The imp replies in an anguished tone: “I learned it from YOU!!......that’s where I got it......from YOU!!” I would like for you to share how they feel about this kind of hypocrisy and how you think childhood and adolescent socialization contributes to conduct problems.

Explanation / Answer

Hypocrisy is the word meaning pretense of having virtues, religious belief, or a hypocrite, and showing desirable attitude or characters which in fact he does not possess only pretend as if he is a man of good moral.

In the US society, a girl is often told to act like a girl. It is the high desire of the parents that their child has to be protected from the free culture, and they should not lose their childhood. As often sees that children start having sex, drugs at an early age that was not the case a few decades back. With advanced science and technology, nothing is hidden. The moral values and cultural values are the histories of the past.

The adolescent is the age when teens form their personal identity.it is the stage of physical and psychological human development it is the physical transition that includes changes to the sex organs, height, the weight they start exploring gender identity and attracted towards sex and new habits.

Peer group plays an important role if the friend circle is of good moral and values it develops moral values and leadership qualities. During this time family environment and relationship with parents is of utmost importance.

Tobacco and alcohol; are freely available it is a known fact the peer group influences. The beginning starts under peer pressure, the substance is first taken just for taste then it becomes extracting joy, slowly the adolescent becomes addictive to it. At this time, as the passage says if the child is caught by the parents and scolded for the habit and if the answer given by the child is that he has learned it from his father, is shocking and an example of adult hypocrisy, where the father is pretending as if he does not have the habit of taking marijuana, in fact the child knows it and on scolding he opens up to say that he has learnt it from his father. This clearly indicates that the father’s activities are directly influencing the child.

Marijuana becomes very common in the US although possessing it in person is a punishable act under the federal government, they are unsuccessful in curbing its use. it is freely used in the campus and parties that are making youth and adolescent drug abuse.

Instead of showing adult hypocrisy it is better the parents show the right moral, and induce positive character in their children by being always available to them in their distress and guide them. In this way a large portion of adolescent and youth will be saved from ruining their life and future.
