Question
What is the Bohr Effect? What is the effect of increasing pH on the oxygen oxygen equilibrium curve? How does increasing pH affect the delivery of oxygen to the tissues? How does decreasing pH affect the delivery of oxygen to the tissues? How does increasing CO2 concentrations affect the delivery of oxygen to the tissues? How does decreasing CO2 concentrations affect the delivery of oxygen to the tissues? How do pH or CO2 concentrations differ between the arteries and the veins? How does this affect oxygen delivery to the tissues? Does arterial blood or venous blood have a higher affinity for oxygen? Explain.
Pleas be detailed!
Thank you will get thumbs up if all answered!
Explanation / Answer
Bohrs effect is defined as the hemoglobin oxygen binding affinity is inversely propertional to the acidity and co2 levels in blood.
Increased pH of blood results in decreased concentration of CO2 levels makes increase affinity of Hb to take oxygen from lungs so it is transport to tissues
Increased pH caused decreased c02 levels at tissue levels so the oxygen delivery is less from Hb to tissues
Decreased pH caused increased co2 levels at tissue levels so the delivery of oxygen is more from the hemoglobin.
Increased Co2 concentration in the tissues means they are in need of more oxygen so the delivery of oxygen is high to the tissues
Decreased co2 concentration causes less need of oxygen to the tissues so the delivery of oxygen is less
Artery carries more oxygenated blood and therefore the Co2 levels are much less than veins also the pH levels are more in artery than veins.
So the delivery of oxygen is quicker and easier in veins than artery because the O2 levels are less jn veins when compared to arteries.
So the Venous blood is higher affinity for oxygen when compare to arteries. That's why Pulmonary arteries carries deoxygenated blood are more affinity to oxygen in hemoglobin.
