This is the question from Quiz 8 that had formatting issues and was deleted Blood pressure in the glomerular capillaries is a force that (favors opposes/does not affect) favors/opposes/does not affect) pressure drops, then autoregulation will cause the afferent arteriole to (dilate/constrict) normal. filtration; colloid osmotic pressure of fluid in Bowman's capsule normally filtration. If renal blood in order to bring glomerular filtration rate (above/below/back to) QUESTION 2 Put the following events in the correct sequence, starting with a wound that leads to Angiotensin Angiotensin ll Sympa thetic stimulation Na+ reabsorption Angiotensin converting enzyme Increased plasma renin Aldosterone Decreased mean arterial pressureExplanation / Answer
Blood pressure is the glomerular capillaries is a force that favors filteration. Blood pressure is the pressure applied to wall of cappilaries. Because of this pressure, blood gets forced out and into the renal tubules.
Colloid osmotic pressure in bowman's capsule normally favors filteration. Colloidal osmotic pressure is due to all the substances responsible for increasing osmolarity. This is basically due to sugars and salts. This is a sucking type of pressure and thus sucks water into the renal tubule.
Colloidal osmotic pressure of blood opposes filteration. Here the colloidal osmotic pressure is due to Albumin. Albumin cannot be filtered and thus remains in blood. It sucks the filtered fluid back in capillaries and is thus a reverse pressure. It cancels the pressures favouring upto some extent as well.
Effective filteration pressure is a term used for the net of all these pressures. It's value is about 10 mm Hg.
Dilate - 4th blank; Decrease in renal blood pressure will cause a buildup of toxic substances in blood since filteration rate will be affected. Filteration via bowman's capsule is proportional to the difference in diameters of the afferent and efferent arteriole. If the body wants to increase filteration, it must either constrict the efferent arteriole or it must dilate the afferent one. Therefore, so as to increase the difference between the diameters of both, and to eject the toxic buildup, afferent tube is dilated.
Back to normal - 5th blank; Almost everytime when body starts a counter mechanism to counter any stress- it's aim is to bring body back to normal. This is a general statement and can be employed anywhere in physiology for effective results and good concepts. Here as well, body takes all the required steps to bring scenerio back to normal.
Decreased mean arterial pressure
Sympathatic stimulation
Renin
Aldosterone
Aldosterone 1
Aldosterone converting enzyme
Aldosterone 2
Sodium reabsorption
(Steps 2 and 3 occur simultaneously)
This whole pathway is a part of renin angiotensin aldosterone system.
Angiotensinogen 1 has 10 amino acids. Angiotensinogen 2 has 8 amino acids.
Angiotensinogen converting enzyme converts the 1 into 2 and is secreted from LUNGS.
