The sign and symptoms are Pulse 140bpm Blood pressure 110/70 Head trauma Edema Raccoon eyes Bruises Tachycardia Fluctuating mental status Right pupil not reactive to light Multiple facial lacerations.
With these signs we are to try and locate a lesion. I’m having a hard time. My thoughts are intracranial pressure????? Concussion?? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Explanation / Answer

The two symptoms out of all the symptoms are diagnostic here. 1) Racoon eyes and 2) Right pupil not reactive to light.

RACOON EYES: It means bruises around the eyes.These are dark patches around the eye. It is seen in Basal skull fracture and Facial injuries. Since alongwith racoon eyes, non reactive right pupil is also present, it clearly indicates Head injury.

To be specific , Concussion.

CONCUSSION is traumatic brain injury that affects your brain function. It is caused by flow blow to head.

The symptoms are as follows

a) Common symptoms

- Headache

- Loss of memory

- Feeling of presssure in head

- Tachycardia

- Dizziness

- Vomiting

- Slurred speach

- Dizziness.

b) Symptoms that are seen late

- Concentration and Memory complain

- Depression

- Bruises

- Non reactive pupil.
