DIGESTION OF PROTEINS
Proteins are actually the polymers of the monomers, amino acids. Their digestion is accomplished in the stomach and the small intestine.
Stomach: Gastric juice here initiates the process of protein digestion. HCl of the Gastric juice helps in converting the proteins into the meta proteins, the form in which they are easily digested. It also helps in converting inactive pepsinogen into the acrive pepsin, HCl makes the apt pH in the stomach so that pepsin can act. Gastric juice also contains renin that aids in the milk digestion. pH of the Gastric juice is acidic.
Small intestine: Digestion in the small intestine is assisted by the set of enzymes produced by pancreas and the small intestine itself.
