Sea water contains more salt content than normal freshwater and body concentration of salt is less than sea water. When he drinks sea water, solute concentration increases extracellularly and thus draws water out of the cell which results in dehydration.

9) In hypertonic solution, solute concentration is higher outside the cell so water move from the cell to outside solution. In hypotonic solution, solute concentration is higher inside the cell so water move from outside solution to the cell. Salting increases the solute concentration which creates hypertonic environment for decomposers like bacteria and fungi. Therefore, they cannot live or the cell shrinks in size.
