1. The central question in the study was whether parents sharing picture books with children could help prevent violence.
2. The researchers reported that there has been a sharp increase in violence in South Africa. More specifically, an increase of almost 5% from the previous year and 20% from the past four years has been noted. Given these alarming figures, the researchers conducted the study with the aim of developing interventions that could tackle the issue from childhood itself.
3. It is noted that children are the most aggressive when they are two years old. However, their level of aggression begins to decline as children learn to better respond to threats and manage frustration.
4. Aggressive children are typically found to hail from families characterised by harsh or inconsistent discipline, poor cognitive stimulation and support, and unresponsive, insensitive parenting.
