Q.What is the research question that the proposed study has?
Ans.The research is all about a Parenting intervention to prevent early childhood aggressions. The research question is “Whether supporting parents shall share picture books with their children to prevent violence”
Q.Why is it important to test the applicability of an aggression and violence prevention program in this region of the world? What are the rationale/ justification for the study?
Ans.There is a great concern about the level of violence in South Africa. According to a recent research there were about 18,673 murders during past one year which is 5% more than the numbers of murders committed in the previous year. Other violent acts like rape and domestic violence is also in the increasing trend which is very alarming. Therefore there is an urgent need to test the applicability of an aggression and violence prevention programme in the region.
The rationale for such programme is to minimize the occurrences of violent activities in the region.
Q.When are children most aggressive? And, does aggression in childhood always continue into adulthood?
Ans.The children are more aggressive during their early childhood period (2-7 years old).However aggression continues to reduce as children lean better ways of handling threats and managing frustrations.
Q.What kind of families do children who are aggressive typically come from?
Ans. Children coming from Families having harsh or inconsistent discipline, poor cognitive stimulation and support, and unresponsive, insensitive parents are more likely to be aggressive than others.
Q.What kinds of intervention/ program are the researchers proposing will be effective in targeting child aggression?
Ans. According to researchers programmes that reduce harsh parental discipline may be helpful in reducing child aggression.
What is dialogic, supportive book-sharing?
Ans. Dialogic book-sharing is a process in which adults engage the child in an active exchange about a book, pitched to be sensitive to the child’s interest and cues, with a fluid interchange between them.
