Question

Hi there, I recently purchased and installed Office for Mac 2011 on my MacBook Pro, running OSX Mavericks. The install went smoothly and the activation key worked just fine. Right when I installed the programs, I was prompted to install the updates for the programs so I did and now they are running version 14.4.4. Now that everything is installed, however, I cannot open the applications to begin documents, presentations, etc. I click on the application to open it, it loads to about 40% then stops abruptly to give me a message saying "Microsoft Excel (for example) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It then asks if I wish to send a report to Microsoft. When I do, and the program opens back up, the Error Report comes right back and continues in a never-ending cycle. In more detail, the error report reads: Microsoft Error Reporting log version: 2.0 Error Signature: Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS Date/Time: 2014-09-08 16:42:51 +0000 Application Naame: Microsoft Excel Application Bundle ID: com.microsoft.Excel Application Signature: XCEL Application Version: 14.4.4.140807 Crashed Module Name: unknown Crashed Module Version: unknown Crashed Module Offset: unknown Blame Module Name: unknown Blame Module Version: unknown Blame Module Offset: unknown Application LCID: 1033 Extra app info: Reg=en Loc=0x0409 Crashed thread: 0 I'm confused by the 'unknoown' portion of the report... Is it because I uupdated? Can these programs not run on Mavericks? I am so confused and cannot seem to find help anywhere. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Explanation / Answer

When all applications are affecteed then you have something occurring with your Mac system itself. I suspect you may have a cache or font issue causing the problem. Restart you Maac with the Shift key held down. This should boot your system into Safe Mode. You
