Explanation / Answer
An operating system is the most important software that runs on a computer. It manages the computer's memory and processes, as well as all of its software and hardware. It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to speak the computer's language. Without an operating system, a computer is useless
Your computer's operating system (OS) manages all of the software and hardware on the computer. Most of the time, there are several different computer programs running at the same time, and they all need to access your computer's central processing unit (CPU), memory, and storage. The operating system coordinates all of this to make sure each program gets what it needs.
1. Discuss the importance of knowing your system information.
By knowing your system information you know
a. What type of hardware/ software(Win/Linux/Mac) you are using in your computer.
b. How much processor speed you have.
c. How much memory(RAM) you have.
d. Hard Disk info (either SSD/HDD).
e. Bios Version etc ,etc. and the list goes on.
Win8/10 users can open the System Open tool by clicking the start button or pressing the Windows key and then typing “msinfo32” or “system information” and press Enter.
2. Why is it important to know for installing software on your system?
Since software are installed on operating system. Software file format varies from Operating system to Operating system. Example .rpm file, .exe , .jpg file format etc etc.
.exe file work only on windows not on Linux and Mac. same applies to .rpm file which is installed on Linux but not on Windows.
Any there are many applications which requires particular OS version only to work. Like some applications works on Windows 8 but not on Windows XP.
Some Application works with particular drivers version, particular BIOS version. to work.
SO it is very important for us to know about the system information which we are using.
3. How will it assist you when calling customer service or technical support for computer problems/concerns at home, work or school?
It will be very helpful if we know the system information which we are using. By telling our system information to technical support guys, he can debug the problem very easily. He can advise us to what need to be done to fix the problem.
Suppose if some computer game is not working. and we call the technical support guy and tell him about our problem. He ask us about the system info. By listing to those details, there are high chances thats our Game does not meet the minimum system requirement of the game. i.e might be processes speed is less, Graphics card is not present. if there then older version is present which not supported by the game., might be RAM issue etc etc.
4. What operating system(s) do you have on the device(s) you use for your school work?
I am using MacBook Pro for my use :) But yeah, i used Windows OS while i was in school.
