Benefits of a project Schedule:
No. Although some organizations use them interchangeable they are essentially different. You can say WBS is a subset of Project schedule. WBS has only the task divided into sub-tasks and person responsible while Project schedule additionally includes time, percentage completion of each sub-task.
It is better to have both since WBS can be prepared before the schedule is prepared and work is assigned. A rough estimation of the project cost and any modification that needs to be done can be incorporated in the WBS and then finally the schedule can be prepared. So the schedule needn't be edited frequently.
