Explanation / Answer

Public relations differ from advertising in many ways. I have highlighted some of the major differences between the two as follows:

Publicity is any promotional communication regarding an organization, its products or services. In publicity message communicated is not paid for by the organization that is benefiting from it. I have heard of publicity many a times and also read about in news papers.

Recent example of publicity for a global company include Google latest gesture of fighting against Ebola. By stepping into social action and starting Google Ebola campaign; Google did a right publicity act at the right time. On one side it stepped into a noble cause by pledging $2 for every dollar donated through its website. And on the other hand by launching this action at the best circumstances and perfect moment it boosted brand reputation and image.

In this example, it created positive publicity. The brand stood for the original social action and also invited people from world wide to join in. This cause and action of Google was everywhere on internet posts, news, and articles.
